For example, because methanol is a polar substance, it does not dissolve the oil, but destroys the oil. When methanol steam and diesel and methanol fuel gas are burned and compressed in the engine cylinder to do work, the gas and oil gap of the piston ring will penetrate methanol gas into the crankcase and the oil is shallows mixed with the oil, which is easy to make the oil break chain to form phase separation, reduce viscosity and oil lubrication performance, directly affect the engine lubrication, leading to early damage of the engine. The flash point of methanol is 4.8 times higher than that of gasoline. As a result, methanol fuel is much less likely to explode in a fire than gasoline. For this reason, international Formula One racing cars all choose methanol fuel as a safe, economic and environmental protection fuel. When methanol is spilled on the ground, microorganisms in the soil degrade it quickly, while gasoline takes a long time to degrade. When methanol is thrown into the water, it can purify the water without causing water pollution. Fire in methanol fuel can be put out with water, but gasoline cannot. Methanol is less dangerous than gasoline and safer than gasoline in transportation, storage and use. Methanol is chemically less toxic than gasoline and diesel, and even less toxic than diesel.

Studies have shown that people are exposed to methanol from a variety of sources, Dr. Chen noted. Not only does methanol occur naturally in the human body, but it is also commonly exposed through air, water and food. Food is the main source of methanol exposure in the general population.
